July 3, 2025

Good Evening Tamarack Shores~We added some more information that was not available until now.

It is that time of year where we celebrate our country’s independence from British rule, July 4, 1776. It symbolizes the nation’s founding, embodying ideals of liberty, self-governance, and the pursuit of happiness, celebrated through festivities that reflect these values.  While lately things in our country have been challenging, we are fortunate to have the freedoms stated above. We may forget from time to time there are countries that limit freedom of speech, have significant gaps in women’s rights or have a good health and educational system in place.  so that being said,  Let’s be sure to be mindful of our neighbors while launching sky sparklers. We should be considerate of the time and remember to bring in our pets. The loud noises will no doubt cause some of them to be anxious or scared.  We also should acknowledge any Veteran’s who live in our neighborhood in case they may deal with PTSD.  We want to wish everyone a safe and Happy 4th of July!

The Pool; we usually have something to say about the pool, how it is used and sadly how it is misused. Most recently a resident allowed their guests to use the pool without being present. They also exceeded the number of guests allowed in the pool, had food and drinks in the pool area and their guests were using safety equipment as a toy, causing it to break.

Now while we do appreciate that the guests complied when kindly asked to remove the food and drinks from the pool area, all the things listed are NOT ALLOWED. The Pool Card Holder/resident was in clear violation of the pool rules & regulations and could be subject to losing Pool Privileges along with being financially responsible for the replacement of damaged items. There is video footage that is under review. We ask that every Pool Card Holder/Resident follow ALL the rules & regulations as posted at the pool and the website.  When one person misuses the pool that causes damage or unscheduled cleaning it means the pool is CLOSED for the rest of the Pool Card Holders/Residents. It hardly seems fair for everyone to suffer the consequences for the actions of one person. PLEASE kindly adhere to the expectation.  IF you are using the Pool and see something that is going on contact a member of the TSOA Board immediately. Their contact information is listed on the Community Board at the pool. You don’t even have to say who you are and just report the facts. There is an email address also listed that goes to an inbox that is monitored. IF we receive an email reporting a violation it will be addressed and if it requires Medical or Law Enforcement, dial 911. The TSOA is hard at work to make great changes in our community. And with each residents help, “together, we is better than me”.

**We have included the Tamarack Shores Owners Association July Letter that was sent out along with the Dues Billing invoice. If you would like to review it online, see below. We have highlighted important information regarding the Dues Billing Invoice that was mailed out recently. If you have any questions or concerns TSOA invites you to attend the next  meeting on July 26th at 9:00 am at the Community Pool/Park area.

                                                                                  TAMARACK SHORES OWNERS ASSOCIATION

Hello and Greetings from your TSOA! The annual meeting of the Tamarack Shores Owners Association will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26th, 2025 at the subdivision pool area on Tamarack Drive. Seating is limited, so please bring a chair. Canopies are welcome.

The Board invites each of you to attend this year’s annual gathering and to consider serving on the Tamarack Shores Owners Association Board. Please understand that Board Officers/Members do not receive a salary or compensation for their service. They serve our community on a volunteer basis. During this meeting, we shall address the following vital matters: the Financial report, updates on the Pool and Parks, the Architectural report, and the election of Board Members. Only property owners are eligible to cast their vote, provided they are members in good standing. Each property account is entitled to a single vote.

The Board meets on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Pool/Park, except for November and December.

Tamarack Shores Owners Association current Board officers and members want to take this time to say “Thank You” to everyone who has responded to our call for help with additional financial assistance. In doing so this helps keep the Tamarack Shores Owners Association up and running. That being said the new Special Assessment total is $60.00 plus the Annual Assessment of $21.00. That makes the total due $81.00. This will be reflected in your next statement.

The Board made changes to pool use fees due to unique circumstances. They are as follows: • Property owners who want to use the pool will pay a pool usage fee of $125 this year.

  • Associate pool memberships are available this year. We are limiting the number of Associate pool cards for Tamarack Shores resident families to 25. The annual cost will be $200. No Associate pool cards will be issued to anyone who does not live in the subdivision.
  • Any property owner using their property for short-term rentals, such as AIR BnBS will be charged $500 for a yearly pool card for each individual property they own.
  • The pool gate will need a new key card effective Sunday, July 27th. There is a $75 replacement card fee for lost/stolen cards. Also as a reminder, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 8-10 p.m. are for adults only, age 18 and up.

Your TSOA is here to assist property owners and the interests of the subdivision. The Board continues to file complaints with County offices such as Environmental Services with positive results and significant successes. Please know that member complaints are taken seriously, and the Board will do whatever can be done legally and effectively to resolve your issues. The Architectural Committee continually works to ensure that restrictions are followed.

Plan your calendar for National Night Out! Join us at the pool, Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 6 p.m. The main course will be donated, so bring your family, a covered dish, your own drinks and chairs. This is an excellent opportunity to meet your neighbors from Tamarack Shores.

TSOA Annual Meeting: 9:00 a.m., July 26, 2025, Tamarack Shores pool area

 Thank You

*************************************Pool Update – Opens Tomorrow Opens at 8 am ********************************************

Good Afternoon Tamarack Shores Residents,

Good news, the phone line is working again and we will be compliant with the state laws and regulations. We kindly ask that the phone be used for its intended purpose; Police and Medical emergencies only. We hope that our community of pool card holders can understand why having a working phone is so important.  It should NOT be used:

  • for personal phone calls
  • Misused, ie making crank phone calls, ordering food for delivery
  • Damaged or Vandalized in any way
  • Or treated like a toy, ie, children pulling on the cords, playing on the phone

Quite simply, if the phone does not work, the pool must be closed until it’s repaired. This is not fair for the pool card holders who do follow the rules and regulations. If you have any questions about the pool rules/regulations or need clarification, please feel free to reach out to us.

The pool will be running on a small scale mechanisms due to the equipment that we received being damaged and nonfunctional. We don’t have a new delivery date as yet but will update when we have more information. The Board finds it necessary to share  this bit information with our community is important because is addresses the number of times the pool must be cleaned and how much time it takes to ensure the pool is maintains safe chemical levels.  Please try to rinse off before and after getting in the pool. Research shows That getting into a pool with dirt and debris on your body can cause significant damage to pool equipment and increase maintenance needs. Dirty swimmers introduce contaminants that disrupt water chemistry, clog filters, and cause other problems,  including your health.

June 22, 2025

Good Day Residents of Tamarack Shores,

As many of you may know the community pool has been out of service for the last week or so. Due to the extensive damage done to the phone system at the pool, it will remain closed. We are working with the service provider to restore service. Tamarack Shores Owners Association must comply with the state laws regarding the accessibility of a phone on the grounds of the community pool. For more detailed information please see below:

Texas Pool Phone Code Requirements

Texas Administrative Code, Title 25 Health Services. Part 1 Department of State Health Services. Chapter 265 General Sanitation. Subchapter L Standards for Public Pools and Spas

Post-10/01/99 and pre-10/01/99 pools and spas shall have a telephone that is capable of immediately summoning emergency services and that is readily accessible within 200 feet from the pool or spa water. A telephone that is answered by an on-site office does not meet the requirements of this subsection. The following shall apply to telephones for post-10/01/99 and pre-10/01/99 pools and spas:

(2) The telephone shall be located inside or outside of the pool yard if the pool is a Class A or B pool.
(3) The telephone must be located outside of all other pool yards or spa yards if all of the following occur: a. The entry gate(s) or door(s) are locked on either side of the gate or door.

(4) Each entry gate and door of a pool yard or spa yard that is locked must have a sign on the exterior of the gate or door or on the exterior of the enclosure fence or wall immediately adjacent to the gate or door, stating the location of the telephone outside of the enclosure and complying with the content and letter size of paragraph 5 of this subsection if: a. The telephone is located outside the pool yard of a Class A or B pool; or
b. The telephone is required to be located outside the pool yard or spa yard under paragraph 3 of this section.
(5) Regardless of where the telephone is located or whether the gate(s) or door(s) are locked, a sign must be installed inside the pool yard or spa yard in plain view of the pool or spa and state in letters at least 1-inch-high: “In case of emergency, call 911.” If the telephone is not readily visible from the pool or spa, the sign inside the pool yard or spa yard shall include a concise description of the location of the telephone.

In addition to the phone service,  we experienced an unexpected problem with a new part which malfunctioned once it was replaced. Again, we appreciate your understanding and patience while we work to resolve both issues.

Good Day Residents of Tamarack Shores,
We felt it prudent to share the latest news. As you know, this past Monday there was an Owner’s Association meeting held at the church down the street. A bulk of the meeting was to review the community Treasurer’s Report and our current standing. At the conclusion of this topic it was determined that the position of Treasurer will be vacated and an Interim Treasurer will fill in until a new Treasurer is elected. Additionally, the “Online payment” feature is on a pause until further notice. Please contact the OA Board via the email to arrange any necessary payments. Check or money order –  NO cash please.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this unexpected change. Please contact the Board Officers or send an email to: tamarackshoresresidentquestion@gmail.com. We will do our best to respond within 24 to 48 hours.
If you are interested in purchasing a pool card or have previously submitted a request for a pool card and have NOT completed the purchase, please send an email via the website as listed above.
Thank You

Good Day Residents of Tamarack Shores!

The HOA Team wants to wish a “Happy Father’s Day to all the Fathers,  StepFathers and  Mothers who wear both hats.   The love and support for your children and family is appreciated. We hope that you have this day to rest, spend time with your loved one and of course enjoy a delicious meal.

The next bit of information we want to share with our residents directly impacts ALL residents who purchased a Pool Card. Over the course of the last 24 – 48 hours someone has vandalized the pool and surrounding pool area. The HOA Team has been very transparent about the expectations for residents and their guests and the Pool Rules/Regulations are readily available on the Information Board at the Pool and of course this website. Whether this was an intentional or accidental event, the end result is the Pool is closed until further notice. It is also important to explain that this causes another expense for Tamarack Shores HOA to incur.

In this day and age when businesses and companies have unexpected loss or expenses that gives them no other choice but to pass that onto the consumers. So, IF this was INTENTIONAL, understand that your actions have consequences and as our investigation into the situation continues please be prepared to face those consequences. IF this was accidental, we understand that can happen from time to time. Please reach out via email to explain the circumstances surrounding this event. IF you know who it was we ask that you let your HOA Team know, again a simple email will be sufficient and your identity will remain anonymous.

Going forward there will be NO food or drinks allowed inside the pool area OR while swimming.  When the pool opens again, these rules will be strictly enforced. That being said members of the HOA Board will make random visits to the pool and park area to ensure it is being used according to the Tamarack Shores Rules/Regulations.

The forthcoming topic has been revisited numerous times over the past two years and is, frankly, one of significant sensitivity and urgency: the welfare and quality of life for residents with domestic pets. This issue does not encompass all pet owners; a drive through our community reveals homes with adequately fenced yards, spacious dog runs, and ample shelter for outdoor pets, accompanied by consistent supplies of food and water.

For pet enthusiasts, there is no greater joy than returning home to a beloved pet, exuberantly greeting them with barks and excitement. However, it is disheartening to witness the increasing number of animals left to roam freely, lost, or discarded like refuse. Furthermore, many outdoor pets experience little to no human interaction, often lacking sufficient shelter from the elements, as well as food and water. We must also acknowledge those animals tethered to trees or posts. Although they may be limited to a ten-foot radius, one must consider the impact of such confinement on their well-being, as they are unable to enjoy even brief moments of freedom alongside their owners.

In all these scenarios, these innocent animals did not choose this existence; they simply seek love and care, always looking to the humans who brought them into their lives. Pet ownership entails a greater responsibility than many realize. If you find yourself overwhelmed by the demands of your pet(s), please do not hesitate to seek assistance. Our community thrives on mutual support, and it is unjust to allow these animals to suffer.

Contrary to some beliefs, pets are indeed capable of understanding and experiencing emotions. Numerous studies over the years have consistently shown this, with some variations. For further insights, I encourage you to visit:https://online.uwa.edu/news/empathy-in-animals/ .  Also visit this website: https://post.bark.co/fun/what-life-is-like-for-chained-dog/. This resource may shift your perspective on domestic pets and their care.

Once again, if you require assistance with your pet, please reach out via our website or email: tamarackshoresresidentquestion@gmail.com . You may also consider asking a neighbor or contacting the Canyon Lake Animal Shelter. Together, we can ensure the well-being of our furry companions.   If you see something, say something. There should be no fear of conflict or retribution. Hopefully the owners will simply understand the situation has come to light out of concern of a helpless pet. And if for some reason there is then we would encourage you to reach out to Comal County Sheriff’s Department and/or Animal Care Services.

June 10, 2025

Good Evening Residents of Tamarack Shores,

We hope you all have had a pleasant 2 weeks into June. We are still dealing with a water shortage due to the prolonged drought that is affecting many places around the country.  Canyon Lake hasn’t been this low (47 % full) in over 100 years. Once again we are asking that our community adhere to all the rules outlined at the Texas Water Company website by visiting  this link: https://www.txwaterco.com/water-conservation/drought-management/comal-county-drought-conditions

This June 16th there will be a HOA meeting at 7 pm at the Community Pool area.  This is a great time for any Tamarack Shores resident to stop by and hear all about what is going on in our community. There will be a recap about information from the last meeting as well as information about the future of Tamarack Shores rules/regulations and dues. Here is an interesting fact, Tamarack Shores was established some time in the late 1960’s to early 70’s. And Tamarack Shores is one of the only subdivisions in the Canyon Lake area that has not changed the amount of the dues. With the rising costs of everything from food to fuel to utilities one can only wonder how Tamarack Shores has been able to get by without any  increase to their annual dues. We have been fortunate to have residents who donated extra monies in addition to their annual dues without any hesistation. To those individuals, we thank you for your contribution, we understand that not everyone is in the position to make this extra contribution. We know that times are tough for everyone. The Tamarack Shores recently met to discuss the financial state of our HOA. This outcome from this meeting is forthcoming, so please be on the look out for it.

And for anyone who is interested in pool cards, coming to the meeting is also a good time to make that purchase. Please see Susan Carpenter for any questions or concerns regarding the pool cards. While we are on the subject of the pool, please be mindful to adhere to the rules and regulations outlined on this website.  It will be added as an additional page and available in English and Spanish.  For Tamarack Shores property owners who have vacation rental property it is vital that you review these rules and ensure that your clients/visitors adhere to them.

Once again the subject of pets that are left outdoors is still an important subject. Being a pet owner comes with a lot of responsibility, especially when we endure the Texas heat and the few months of the year when it gets very cold. Please be sure to provide adequate drinking water for your indoor/outdoor pets and some sort of shelter to provide shade.  Please review this website for more information: https://www.tpr.org/podcast/the-source/2022-01-17/texas-law-now-bans-dog-owners-from-unlawful-outdoor-tethering. The article itself references the city of San Antonio, but the laws put into place fall under the state of Texas. It also addresses repeat offenders.  Please do not be afraid to contact Comal County Animal Services if you see a pet in distress. They can be contacted at 830-608-2016.

We hope that you find this information helpful. As always if you have questions use the “Contact Us” page or email tamarackshoresresidentquestions@gmail.com.

June 1, 2025

Happy first day of June Residents of Tamarack Shores! We have been so fortunate to have some rain a few days this week. It might seem insignificant but every little drop helps. That being said, we should still be mindful of when the heat returns to be diligent to care for outdoor pets.

Next bit of news is the community pool is out of service.  There was an issue with the pipes and flow of bad water. Needless to say the pool cannot be used for the time being.  Keep your eye on the website for more information.

May 15, 2025

UPDATE: The recent news reports are calling for extreme heat conditions. Additionally we all know that Summer in Texas is traditionally hot, our community included. That being said please be sure to provide adequate food, water and shelter for your outdoor pets. And a friendly reminder,  in Texas, it is illegal to leave a pet outside in extreme weather without adequate shelter, food, and water. This includes cruelty to non-livestock animals and unlawful restraint of a dog. Some cities also have specific ordinances to protect pets in extreme weather conditions. IF you see a pet in distress, do the right thing and contact Comal County Animal Care Services, it could save the pet’s life. These pets do have feelings and don’t deserve to be neglected.

Good Morning Residents of Tamarack Shores!

The HOA Team wishes all the Mothers in our community a very Happy Mother’s Day. We recognize that being a parent is not an easy  especially in this world we live in. But we certainly appreciate all of the hard work and effort that you put forth each day. Motherhood is not a job, it is a choice, a lifelong commitment to raising your children to feel loved, happy and safe. All the while teaching them the most basic things in life, to practice kindness, work hard and become a productive human being  in your community as well as every where they go. First time Mother’s, a very special Happy Mother’s Day! You are embarking on one of the most challenging and rewarding adventure of your life.

Summer is right around the corner and we can look forward to hot days and wish for cool evenings. We are still only 45.9% full for our Canyon Lake water level as of May 10th, 2025. While we have had a few days of rain, it was not enough to make a significant increase. Let’s do our part to help by adhering to the Texas Water Company Conservation plan.  See their website for more information at https://www.txwaterco.com/.

Something else to think about with Summer being around the corner, kids of all ages will be home until roughly mid August. Please remind Elementary age kids to be careful playing outside and to be mindful of traffic in our neighborhood.  For our Middle School and High School kids, let’s practice safety while walking around. If it is at night, please be mindful to have a flashlight or wear something reflective. And for our High School drivers, please be mindful to watch the speed limit. There are adequate signs posted in our neighborhood. We have plenty of deer, wildlife and domestic pets that run free.

That brings up the next concern, house pets; dogs in particular. In Comal County, including Canyon Lake, dogs are not allowed to run at large and must be restrained. This means they need to be on a leash, within a fenced area, or otherwise under the direct control of their owner. Violations can result in fines, and unrestrained dogs may be impounded.

If you have dogs that are “escape artists”, don’t be afraid to ask for a helping hands from neighbors. We want to help keep your pets safe not just froms being hit by a car but also from the area wildlife.  I feel sure that your neighbors would be willing to help find a solution.

IF you feel like having a pet has become more than you bargained for or perhaps the rising costs to kept them fed or providing the pets with the appropriate shelter, whatever the reason and you have to make the difficult decision to give them up PLEASE reach out to our area shelters. If you have ever looked at the neighborhood social media platforms you will find so many posts about dogs running loose, being dumped at area stores, parks and boat ramps. Please help keep these dogs safe. All they ever wanted was to be loved and cared for by their owners.

This brings a close to this week’s posting. Thank you again.

Greetings Tamarack Shores Residents~

Hope that everyone had an enjoyable Easter weekend with family and friends. It has been a quiet couple of weeks and the weather has been pleasant. We have had a few days of rain but not quite enough to make a big difference.  Please continue to be mindful of water usage. We can only hope that there is some rainy days ahead. There has been an increase in traffic on 306 with improvements to the road and folks visiting the Whitewater Amphitheater. Please be extra careful and drive safe, especially on the weekends. One more bit of news is we are working hard to get the community pool ready for this season. Don’t forget to purchase your pool card to cool off on the hot Summer days. As always if you have any questions or concerns please send an email to tamarackshoresresidentquestion@gmail.com.

March 30 – April 1 2025

Hello Residents of Tamarack Shores We hope that everyone is doing well and looking forward to one of our most favorite times of the year-Spring! The days are longer, the weather warms up and most nights are still cool. The trees shake off their winter nap, with buds popping like popcorn into fresh leaves and flowers, gearing up for a growth spurt as they get ready to strut their stuff in the summer sun. This Spring is especially important since we have had very little rain over the last few months, there is renewed hope that “April Showers” will make an appearance on a regular basis. If anyone has had a chance to walk down by the Lake, they will see the affects of this drought. The water is so low that it is possible to walk from Hancock Horse Trails to almost the other side close to the road that leads to the Marina! That being said, we ask all Tamarack Shores residents to be sure to follow the guidelines set forth by the water company. We still have a long road ahead of us and need to preserve what we have.

This next issue our HOA team is dealing with is the rising costs to care for and maintain our swimming pool. There are a small number of residents who use the pool; some are full time residents, some are seasonal residents and lastly a group of property owners who use their homes for profit by listing on Air B & B, VRBO, Homeaway.com, etc. Our Accounting/Bookkeeper HOA Team member explained at our meeting a few months back that the company we use to cover the swimming pool doubled. They did their best to shop around for the best annual price but sadly the new rate was the best option. That being said, we renewed and paid for another year. However that left us in the “red” with regarding to covering the costs to get the pool up and running for this Summer season.  We are so very grateful to one individual who stepped up during our time of need and loaned the HOA Team the exact amount needed.  At the last meeting we brain stormed different ideas to raise money to keep the pool going for another season.  Last season we took a big hit financially due to damages caused by people who did not follow the guidelines posted at the pool and vandals. It is important to understand that when the pool and area are mistreated  we have to close it for repairs. This happened frequently last season and that impacted every person that DID NOT attribute to the misuse and destruction of the pool/area. We made every effort address each issue to prevent any further problems. It is no laughing matter nor is it fair for the residents who use it responsibly as they have paid extra to have that privilege. So we are asking everyone who lives in the homes next door, across the street or behind the Pool, IF you see something, say something. Alert any one of the HOA Team members. Their contact information is posted at the Pool. Call Comal Sheriff Department for assistance too. As a community, we should make every effort to come together and protect our homes and common area.

There has always been a problem with traffic speed throughout our community. Recently a resident noted their experience with a driver who was reckless and did not follow the very basic rules with regard to traffic. I called the Sheriff Dept. and was told the following: Texas law establishes a default speed limit of 30 mph for residential streets. The 20 mph speed limit is only in certain parts of the roads. You”ll notice it coming down tamarack as you get close to the park. We need to be mindful to follow all the signs posted throughout our community. Especially early in the morning and afternoon  where there are kids either waiting for pick up or drop off with area school buses.

On the subject of school, it has been a tradition of High School Seniors to participate in “Senior Assassin”. It is a game where the graduating Seniors are assigned another Senior student and they are armed with water guns as they seek them out. They are essentially free game at any public place. There are rules as to where they can be caught. The last Senior standing at the end wins and collects the reward. So if you happen to see a young adult hiding in the bushes or peeking around corners don’t be alarmed, they are just playing a game!

Good Morning Tamarack Shores

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! This month has gone by so quickly that we have not been able to catch up. Here is a website to help locate something to do: https://www.eventbrite.com/d/tx–new-braunfels/st-patricks-day/.  The days are getting warmer and we are seeing a few more high wind warnings than last year. Please be mindful of the burn bans for our area. In addition as of March 16, 2025, Canyon Lake is at 48.0% full. Here’s a more detailed breakdown:

  • Current Water Level: 879.11 feet above mean sea level
  •  Full Pool: 909.00 feet
  • Flood Pool: 943.00 feet
  • Change Since Yesterday: 0.04 feet

Let’s do our part to help by adhering to the Texas Water Company Conservation plan.  See their website for more information at https://www.txwaterco.com/.

Not too much more to update on but will have more after the next HOA Team meeting. Be safe Tamarack Shores Residents.

February 21, 2025

At the last Board meeting there was much discussion about the importance maintaining a well kept yard/property and what we could do to help each other. One of the suggestions was coming up with a group of individuals who could volunteer their time to offer assistance with simple tasks such as mowing/trimming a yard, picking up reasonably sized debris from yards and help with disposal to name a few. If you are interested in what I like to call “The Good Neighbor” idea, please reach out to us via the email address: tamarackshoresresidentquestion@gmail.com.   We also want to take the time to acknowledge those who have made improvements to their property. Thank you for doing your part to help make our community a better place to live.

Another aspect that falls under “The Good  Neighbor” idea includes a growing concern on crime and illegal activities that seems to happening. The Tamarack Shores HOA team hopes that all residents, whether full time, seasonal, homeowners or renters want the same thing; to live peacefully and feel safe here. As a community we need to look out for one another especially if someone sees or hears of something that can be harmful to a person, pet or property. Let’s try to follow the  “If you see something, say something” movement that is used throughout the Comal County School District.  If you have any questions please reach out via email.

And lastly the Tamarack Shores HOA team is working on providing the Board Members an identification badge to wear when they are out in our community interacting with residents or following up on inquiries that are submitted via the website. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to read the website.

February 2, 2025

Happy Groundhog Day residents of Tamarack Shores! Good old Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow today which means there is 6 more weeks of Winter. We can only hope that if Phil is correct, it will not be too cold, icy or snowy. That being said let’s not forget to be prepared for freezing temperatures again. Wrap the outdoor pipes to keep them from freezing. The piped be it metal or plastic can expand and burst, then once thawed water will be spraying everywhere. Please consider the ripple effect this has on not just Tamarack Shores but the whole area around us. Keep in mind there is still low water levels still present. For more details see the link provided: https://www.txwaterco.com/water-conservation/drought-management/comal-county-drought-conditions .

Now this next subject is quite the hot topic and there are many residents who have shared their concerns and complaints, all are hoping to find an amicable solution. There is no doubt that it will “step on some toes” and may even offend or cause some residents to be upset. But please understand that this Editorial piece is being discussed because it is important for all parties concerned. In the past, this subject was addressed with subtlety, hoping that it would get the message across and that changes would be made. That has not been the case. That being said, here we go.

When people drive into Tamarack Shores at first glance it is pleasant and welcoming to the eye. However when someone drives along Tamarack Drive as it winds and curves up and down the hill, the further in they go, they begin to see properties that are not as well maintained, some with yards that are littered with random items scattered about.  and some have trash stacked in piles from doing renovations or just cleaning out storage space. For the residents of Tamarack Shores who are long time residents and new residents who have built new homes here this is distressing and for some even embarrassing. It is understood that not everyone can afford to obtain a dumpster to dispose of the items but one must hope there are some other options even if it means keeping the front of the properties clean and well manicured and storing the trash and debris behind the home or in large trash bags. It is vital that we keep debris and trash from overflowing into another person’s property as well. It also helps to keep the brush and grass cut to keep the wild animals from making it their home. If there are toys that are used on a daily basis it is a great idea to place them in a storage bin so they can be protected from the environment and that also helps the toys to be well preserved. Most recently Comal County Environmental agent paid a visit to a resident in our community and made note of some very apparent violations. The agent validated the concerns and alerted the HOA Committee. The information provided by the agent will be discussed at our next HOA meeting later this month and it is our goal to come up with a plan of action.

The overall takeaway from this editorial piece is as follows:

One person’s trash can affect others by contributing to environmental pollution, attracting pests that can spread disease, impacting aesthetics in shared spaces, and potentially causing harm to wildlife, ultimately impacting the health and quality of life for everyone in the community, even if they don’t directly dispose of the trash themselves; improperly discarded trash can also lead to clogged waterways and flooding issue

Key points about how one person’s trash affects others:

  • Disease spread: Trash can attract rodents and insects which can carry diseases, potentially spreading them to humans through contact or bites.
  • Water contamination: Litter entering waterways can harm aquatic life and contaminate drinking water sources.
  • Air pollution: Burning trash can release harmful pollutants into the air. Always check then Count Burn Ban information before burning.
  • Aesthetic impact: Litter in public areas can negatively impact the appearance and enjoyment of spaces for everyone. It can also cause property values to drop.
  • Economic impact: Cleanup costs associated with litter can burden communities and businesses.
  • Wildlife harm: Animals can become entangled in or ingest trash, causing injury or death.

Thank you to all who read this page on our website.

December 7th, 2024

Today is a special day, least we forget those who served in the past, present and future. These are the men and women we honor today because our Freedom came with a price. We take a moment to remember them and to be Thankful for their service.

Pearl Harbor is a U.S. naval base near Honolulu, Hawaii, that was the scene of a devastating surprise attack by Japanese forces on December 7, 1941. Just before 8 a.m. on that Sunday morning, hundreds of Japanese fighter planes descended on the base, where they managed to destroy or damage nearly 20 American naval vessels, including eight battleships, and over 300 airplanes. More than 2,400 Americans died in the attack, including civilians, and another 1,000 people were wounded. The day after the assault, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan. Today there are only 16 still living, according to a list maintained by Kathleen Farley, the California state chair of the Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors. Military historian J. Michael Wenger has estimated there were some 87,000 military personnel on Oahu on the day of the attack.  As a community, Thank You to all men and women who have served in the Armed Forces.

Now that the cooler weather has arrived please do not forget to give your fur babies shelter from the elements be it rain and cold. We need to also remember that Comal County Animal Services maintains great sources of information on their website.

Neighborhood safety is important to everyone, please be mindful to adhere Burn Ban guidelines. It may be so tempting to sit outside in the cold weather and light up a fire pit but there are very important conditions to consider. Our community has been fortunate to have very few issues that are being brought to HOA Team as of late.  Should you have any concerns, please reach out to the Board.

In other news, the weather continues to cool down, a few rain showers here and there but we are still seeing low water levels at the lake.  And with that we must consider the county is still under a burn ban. Please continue to remain diligent and responsible.

The Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland is looking for about 400 host families to participate in Operation Home Cooking for Thanksgiving 2024. Operation Home Cooking is an annual tradition that helps service members feel at home during Thanksgiving. I hosted twice and it was one of the most rewarding experiences my family had the pleasure of participating in. Here are some more details in case you are interested:

When to apply: Applications are accepted from October 28 to November 20, 2024.

Where to apply: Email Laurie Pozorski at laurie.pozorski@us.af.mil

Who can apply: Host families must live within an hour of the San Antonio metropolitan area and pass a background check.

What’s involved: Host families will provide transportation to and from the Pfingston Reception Center at JBSA-Lackland. They will also accept two trainees into their homes for the holiday.

What to expect: Trainees will be picked up at the Pfingston Reception Center between 7–9 AM and must be returned by 6 or 7 PM, depending on the week of training.

And finally the latest news on changes to our website.  At each of the OA meetings there was usually at least one resident who would ask when we would start accepting payments online. After much discussion and careful consideration the OA Team is proud to announce that we are now set up to receive payments online via the website.  With the help of our new Treasurer, Susan Carpenter we have a PayPal account that is directly set up to have monies sent to the Tamarack Shores OA Association bank account. There is a place on the Tamarack Shores home page that is titled “Online Payments Now Accepted”. You must double click on the Title Line in RED to be redirected to the next page. There is a form for you to fill out and directions on how to submit the payment. The information will then be stored on a spreadsheet for our Treasurer to reference should there be any questions.  Going forward, we will not be accepting Cash Payments for anything. Please refrain from attempting to hand off any payments to anyone other than Susan Carpenter. If you would rather pay by check, that is also an option. It can be mailed to our Treasurer at the following address:

This Monday we will have the last OA Meeting of the year at the Tamarack Shores Community Pool. We invite you to attend and voice your concerns about anything and everything. We are doing our best to work together to bring joy, beauty and peace to our neighborhood.

The last time we got together was for National Night Out, where we got together to enjoy some delicious food and the company of our neighbors. The Comal County Sheriff’s Department came out and shared some general information about safety in our community. A good time was had by all. And lastly there are a few things going on during the last week or so in October. Just one event to mention is the St. Andrews Church on 2673  Fall Festival : https://www.standrewofcl.org/events/fabulous-fall-festival-raffle/2024-10-26 . Be sure to take a look at the link for more details. Keep an eye out for other signs from organizations that are offering a safe environment to spend this Fall festivities.

Hello Residents of Tamarack Shores. It has been a usually hot month and we are eager to have some cooler weather with October 1st right around the corner.  Please do not forget to come out to the Pool/Park area as we gather for “National Night Out”. We will be serving hamburgers and ask that all who attend bring a side dish to share with your neighbors. This is an excellent time to visit with our neighbors both long time residents and newcomers to our community. Bring a chair and your favorite beverage (preferably non alcoholic) and enjoy what we hope will be a cooler evening.

Looking for things to do and support your local schools, then check out the following link for more details:  https://clhs.comalisd.org/

As the days will go by pretty quick, we get closer to Halloween. We urge our residents to please take care of your pets. There have been incidents posted on the “NextDoor” app regarding family pets being shot at intentionally. Keep your fur babies in your homes so they are safe on what is supposed to be a night of fun for kids. And if you are able to corral any of the dogs and cats that roam our streets and properties just for that night, please do. They don’t deserve to be hurt or killed for no reason.

On the subject of pets,  we are seeing a rise in dogs running loose in the neighborhood. It is not known whether they belong to someone who lives here, are lost or even dropped off by someone who no longer wants them. PLEASE if you are a pet owner try to keep them contained in your own yard. Hopefully you have a fenced in property or a dog run that meets the Comal County Animal Ordinances. Please take a moment to click on the following link for more detailed information: https://www.thln.org/

Hopefully you will find this information useful. Always remember the “Golden Rule.” The Golden Rule is a moral code that states “In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you“.

Good Afternoon Residents of Tamarack Shore.

If you have children or grandchildren in  the area then you know we have just finished up our first week of school. It looks to be the start of an outstanding year filled with fun and lots of activities.  Keep in mind that the children of Tamarack Shores do ride the bus to their respective schools each morning and afternoon. Please watch the speed limit, watch for the children loading and unloading as they may be crossing the street to get to their homes.

We want to also remind our residents to follow the guidance of Comal County for water conservation especially during the hottest days of this month.

In more news we want to thank the following OA Board Members, Mike and Shireen Terry and Phil Koustroun. After more than a decade of volunteering to serve their community. They have resigned from the board and we wish them good luck in their endeavors. We now would like to welcome our new OA Treasurer Susan Carpenter. She is also a long time resident of Tamarack Shores and has a background in Accounting/Bookkeeping. Susan is looking forward to taking over the challenge and meeting the residents.  Our new Architectual Lead is Matthew Mayo. Matt graciously volunteered his time and commitment to our community.

The most important thing to remember is that the whole Owners Association Team have the same goal: to make Tamarack Shores a better place to live and raise our families as well as cleaning up the community to add value to our properties. If we all work together to keep our homes and property free of rubbish this can make our community beautiful again.

One last thing, we will be celebrating “National Night Out” on October 1st at 6:00 pm at the Community Pool.  The Owners Association Team will provide hamburgers but need help with the rest. If you plan on attending we ask that you bring a side dish to share with the rest of the residents. Remember to bring your own beverage and a chair as seating is limited.  Please copy the link below into a new browser to sign up.

July 28,2024

This weekend the Owner’s Association Team met with the community residents  for the Annual HOA meeting to discussion past issues and current issues.  One of the topics addressed was the amount of money that has been spent to make repairs to the pool and park area. With the help of our community we have been able to determine who was responsible for the damages. The Owners Association Team is working together find a better way to prevent these types of incidents from happening so that we can save money for our community.

The Owners Association Team welcomed two more volunteers to be a part of the Board. Please welcome Susan Carpenter and Matthew Mayo. We look forwarding to having you as a part of our team and look forward to hearing your ideas and feedback.

The Owner’s Association Team listened to the concerns of the residents who have been attending the monthly meetings and have created a “Special Committee” to work on drafting a documents that will be more in line with current state rules/regulations with regard to our community bylaws. This project is time sensitive and tedious. Our hope in moving forward with this will improve the quality of life for all the residents of Tamarack Shores.  Please continue to monitor this website for updates.

And the last thing we would like to share is we have a date set for the annual “National Night Out” event. This year it Weill be held on October 01-2024 at the pool. The Owners Association Team will be providing the main dish and kindly ask that if you plan on attending to please bring a side dish. Don’t forget your favorite beverage and your chair.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Thank you for taking time to review the information. Have a wonderful evening and enjoy the rest of this Summer.

June 18, 2024

Good Evening Residents of Tamarack Shores,

Last night the monthly Owners Association meeting took place at the Community Pool/Park area. While the turnout was smaller than we hoped for, the conversations that took place were “Big”. There is much concern about the pool being used by non residents, residents who did not purchase their seasonal pool card and people in general who are finding ways to avoid the cameras so they may enter the pool after hours. In addition to these issues, there is much discussion of the rising costs to repair the damage that is being done and maintenance for the pool/park area in general.  The OA team listened to each person with an open mind with the hopes of working together to prevent these issues from reoccurring. We do feel that a solution was agreed upon and will be put into place in the coming days.  That being said, please remember that everyone can help just by reaching out to the OA Team to report anything that may seem out of the ordinary. We kindly ask that all residents review the policies in place for the pool/park area. This information can be found on the website under “Docs and Forms’ and will be posted on the Board that is located at the Pool/Park area.

With Summer in Texas comes the extreme heat. People in general know what to do to avoid dehydration and sunstroke with the hot weather. But what about the communities 4 legged residents? There are a lot of residents who own dogs and cats in our community and we need to ensure they are protected from hot and cold weather situations alike. Please take a look at the following website: https://texashumanenetwork.org/extreme-hot-weather-pet-safety/. There is a lot of great information for us all.

As this update comes to a close, we hope that the Residents of Tamarack Shores finds this information useful. We want to hear from you too. If there is something you would like to see addressed or more of, just send us an email. There are two ways to reach out:

1.  At  tamarackshores.net under “Contact us” you can send an email. That inbox is monitored and typically a response provided within 24-48 hours of receiving the email. Either an answer to the query will be provided or the query will be redirected to the appropriate OA Team member for resolution.

2. Alternatively you can send an email to tamarackshoresresidentquestion@gmail.com and just as mentioned above, expect a response within 24-48 hours of receiving the email.

3. IF for some reason you have tried options 1 & 2 several times and do not get a response, the phone number of the Owners Association President, Maria Castillo is listed and she is open to receiving phone calls. Please be mindful in using good judgement with regard to the time of day a call is being placed. A good rule of thumb is not before 9am or after 9pm. If it is an emergency situation, then I would recommend contacting Comal County Sheriff’s Department.

June 3, 2024

Good Afternoon and Welcome to Summertime!

It’s that time of year again, the heat and humidity falls upon us and hopefully we can all remain cool and comfortable over the next couple of months. There are a few new faces in our community and we would like to share a warm “Welcome” with them.  We hope that you are settling in to our quiet community and looking forward to making this your forever home. The community of Tamarack Shores like to work together to promote safe and peaceful living. It is a place where we all take care of each other, keeping a mindful eye out for anything out of the ordinary as well as offering to help out a neighbor when they need it. Our goal is to make our community beautiful for all to enjoy and remember it does help to increase the value of our properties when we maintain our homes and put the clutter and debris in its appropriate place.

For families with fur babies, it is not uncommon for us to make sure there are no lost fur babies roaming around and do what we can to get them back to their homes safely. It also extends to a few of the community dogs and cats that have no owners. These sweet babies have been abandoned and left to fend for themselves. One in particular has been on his own for at least 2 years. Yes, it is the little tan Chihuahua on Tamarack Drive . Our family feeds him as often as we can and named him “Ito” short for “Chiquita”. This fella has been without any physical human contact during these last 2 years. No one can catch him, while many have tried, even the Comal Animal Control cannot catch him. He truly is a speedy little guy. So a very special word of thanks and gratitude goes out to the folks in our community who feed, water and give some sort of shelter to Ito and any other of the feral furry friends who have no family. There may be some folks who find them a nuisance while animal lovers alike just want to do right by these fur babies who have been abandoned, lost or thrown away. They didn’t ask to be brought into this world and left all alone. Please keep that in mind when seeing them about. On the same lines, for those of us who have dogs, it is against the law to allow them to run loose. It is also dangerous for them and others. So please, if you have a dog make sure they are contained to stay on your property(also not chained to a tree, which happens to be against the law as well). If you have questions about how to best accommodate these dogs on your property in pens or kennels, please feel free to call Comal Animal Control or check their website. There is plenty of information as to how big a space is legally required to safely and comfortably contain your pet.

Traffic: Always a concern in our community, especially now that school is out, there are kids and teens riding bikes and walking around the  community.  Please FOLLOW the traffic laws, speed limits and signs. There is no reason to speed up or down Tamarack. Please check out this website for more information:
https://www.nhtsa.gov/risky-driving/speeding

Speeding doesn’t really save much time when trying to get to your destination. I personally tried an experiment during a work week to show my teenage student that by increasing my speed, ultimately we got to our destination about the same time.

Our community pool is now open for residents who have purchased a pool card. Please review the policies in place while using the pool. These policies were created to keep residents safe while offering a cool place to rest and relax. It is not a place for just anyone to use, vandalize or trash the area. Please be mindful to close the gate when coming and going to ensure that only pool card holders have access to the pool. And lastly, for anyone who is new to our community once again we  “Welcome You Home!”  We hope you enjoy our peaceful community. If you are planning on building or adding on to an existing home, please check out the “Docs & Forms” to for all information as to what is needed to proceed.

Thank You all again for taking the time to read this. Have a good and safe work week.
