We know many of you have been wondering why our community pool has been closed longer than expected, and we’d like to share a little information.
The extreme heat and high temperatures we’ve experienced have made maintaining the pool’s water chemistry more challenging than usual. Warmer water and intense sunlight cause chlorine to be used up more quickly, while also creating conditions where algae can grow more rapidly.
With increased pool use during these hot days, sunscreen, sweat, body oils and other contaminants also add to the demand on the pool’s chemical system. During the latest vacuuming one of the items that was found was cigarette butts. They definitely attributed to the water quality and created additional work for our maintenance team. Our pool maintenance team has been working daily to treat, clean and balance the water so that it can be safely enjoyed by our community.
This is also a good reminder that following the posted pool rules really does make a difference. Wearing appropriate swimwear, showering before entering the pool, and keeping food, drinks, and other prohibited items out of the pool all help us maintain cleaner, safer water and reduce unnecessary strain on the pool system.
The good news is that the pool is scheduled to reopen tomorrow! 🎉 Our goal is to keep it open through the next scheduled maintenance and cleaning, which is one week from tomorrow.
